Coming into this match, some of the Greenleys Crusaders team have perhaps performed lower than they might have expected (despite having been promoted from Division Five) with the notable exception of Colin Haddon getting a good win against Paul Rickard.  That said, although James Maurice had a single win out of his previous six attempts, all but one of his losses were in five.

I kicked things off against James - our matches tend to go the distance and I probably have emerged as the victor more times than not, but it was clear that he was playing better than I've seen him play before - everything he hit went on and he managed to beat me in a swift three legs that I never really managed to get into to give Crusaders an early lead and remove the 100% next to my name (it never lasts more than a single game!)  Pedro Anastacio (who I've never met) then played Julian Ziegler.  His variety of serves almost caught Julian out and three of these went to deuce, but Julian played very well to take the win in the fourth.  Fred Cerisola was then on against Chris Paddon.  Chris took this fairly comfortably in three legs.  I was slated to play the doubles with Julian and despite being the only one to lose a game so far, we stuck with the original plan, which just about paid off, though after an 11-5 hammering in the first leg it didn't look as though it would.  The rest were closer and we managed to take it in the fifth and take a 3-1 lead.

I then took a 2-0 lead against Pedro and managed to fail to close out the game in both the third and fourth legs, which both went to deuce.  Suffice to say if I'd lost the fifth it would have put me in a bad mood - but I managed take a lead in the fifth and hold him off at the end.  James Maurice continued his good run of form then, beating Chris Paddon, though this time he took five legs to do it - Chris had looked like he would run out a convincing winner in the first leg, but James quickly recovered from that.  Fred then went on against Julian and Julian took a dominant win in straight sets, making the score 5-2 to Cavaliers.

Pedro and Chris Paddon started off the last round of games; Chris managed to take this in straight sets, but Pedro did put up a fight and nearly took the middle leg.  Next was Fred and I - I managed to beat Fred in three, who I think struggled against my style.  It was then James and Julian's turn to battle out the final game - the victor of which would earn a maximum.  Julian took a convincing 2-0 lead and looked as though he'd be able to end James' run of wins, however James fought back in the third and fourth to force a decider.  Julian evidently didn't like this, as James earned just two points in the final leg of the night, struggling with Julian's serves.

Player of the match is Julian, who struggled with injuries for much of last season and got thoroughly disheartened - he's now earned maximums in two of the three matches he's played this season.
