Midson Maximum, but Top D2 Team Swallows a Draw!
Divsion 2 leaders, Greenleys Glory had previously beaten sixth placed visitors, Mursley Swallows, 7-3, despite being a player short, so with a full team out, this time, and all their players above the those of the Swallows' players in the Averages, they may have anticipated an easy ride, however it not quite as plain sailing as might have been expected? Scott Dixon, albeit slightly hampered by a bad wrist, opened for the home team against Martin Johnson, and whilst Martin's blocking style and use of angles gave him an early lead, Scott levelled at 1-1 and then 2-2. The final leg was nip and tuck all the way, with Martin just edging it at 11-9. Roger Shelton added further to the visitor's tally, with a win over a slightly out of sorts, on the night, Christine Scaysbrook. Jacob Midson restored some sort of normality, as he proved too good for John Paul, and later both his other opponents, plus he then teamed up with Christine to take the doubles against Roger and Martin in four legs, to level the score, at that stage, to 2-2. Christine's singles form, however, could not maintain the winning formula, as she lost a close game to Martin, and subsequently in four legs to John. Scott looked to be cruisng to a win over John, which would have brought the scores level at 3-3, going up two legs to nil, but John battled back, and for the second time of the night, Scott lost out at 11-9 in the fifth. So, with Jacob duly winning against Roger & Martin, but Christime losing out to John, it stood at 4-5 to the visitors. Scott finally found a little more consistency and picked up his first win of the night, against Roger, to salvage the draw for Glory.
