PREM DIV MATCH REPORT : GREENLEYS MONARCHS 9 MK TOPSPIN 1
DYNAMIC DUO STRIKE AGAIN
After opening the season with a trio of 3-7 defeats we, at Topspin, have now registered a 1-9 scoreline in more than half of the other matches played. This latest one came courtesy of Topspin likely lads Russell Penn and Mervyn Kelly pulling off their second doubles win though, in truth, they didn’t have to do too much to succeed, the Monarchs boys being far too wayward in their shot making. The Russ/Merv combo took the opening 2 games, were pulled back to 2-2, led 3-0 in the 5th before trailing 3-5 at change of ends and won the set on their 2nd match point at deuce. It was that kind of topsy-turvy battle. But, they kept plugging away and thoroughly deserved the victory.
Both teams haf gone into the match with their regular sides in a very enjoyable evening with the Monarchs’ 9 single wins enough to take them to the top of the table while my Topspin side remain firmly ensconced at the bottom. Tomek Nowakowski. Dave Beddall and Martin Hall put in a workmanlike performance throughout, though all dropped games along the way.
So, a welcome relief for us at Topspin to add another win to our points total after, what had been, a dreadful run of 28 consecutive set defeats going back to November.
