Topspin ended a run of 3 defeats tonight in a solid display that keeps us in the hunt for 2nd place with just 5 matches left. Rivals Phoenix and Pumas play each other this week and I hope they can oblige us with a draw this time round while St.Christopher Van Hire remain heavily dependent on globe trotting Biao Wang’s availability to stay at the top.
This match opened with the first 3 sets all going to 5 games as Topspin took a 2-1 lead, Xiangyu Gau saving 4 match points to overpower Mervyn Kelly with his heavy forehand shots for the visitor's victory, Xiangu went on to beat Russell Penn in another 5-gamer but came unstuck against me as I hit a purple patch when 9-4 down in the 2nd game to win the next 20 points and the set 3-straight. The doubles was a welcome win too as we had lost 6 in a row previously. Patrick Wong and Yi Cao completed the Primes line-up and both played well without success.
