Third placed Mursley Hawks took on sixth placed Open University Shockwave, and given the wave of close results in the last couple of weeks, another tight match was expected. Although the scoreline might suggest otherwise, it was indeed close, but with Hawks taking more of the tight sets, they emerged 7-3 winners at the end of the night in a match that featured six deuce games and fifteen games which went to 11-9.
Charity Wong looked like she might extend her run of seven consecutive wins, in the opener, going 1-0 and 2-1 up against Martin Johnson, but Martin's hitting started to find its range as he came through in five games. Charles Tien levelled things against Mick O'Mahoney in four games, with all four games ending 11-9. Hawks then started to move ahead, as David Bartlett won against Ganiyu Adebanjo, who was playing his first match for the team, and Martin and Mick took the doubles against Charity and Charles, a sixth loss in a row for the Shockwave pairing, who had won their first three of the season! Charity against Mick was the tightest set of the night, with Mick just sneaking it at 11-9 in the deciding leg, after which Martin put Hawks 5-1 up as he beat Ganiyu. Charles bamboozled David with his serving in set seven to win in straight games, and Charity won in three close games against David, but Mick had won his second of the night in between, to ensure a Hawks victory. The final match pitted the two unbeaten players against each other, and it was yet another tight one, with Martin just finding the winning hits at the end of each leg against Charles, to scrape home 10, 9, 9, and record a 7-3 win for the home team.
