Match Report (courtsey of Martin Johnson)
Newport Pagnell Lagondas 6 - 4 Mursley Swallows
Lagondas and Swallows agreed to bring their last match forward one week, with both being out of the Cup, to conclude their seasons a week early.
The two teams had their usual lineups, namely Glen Davison, Roy Read & Chris Horn for Lagonas, and Peter Sear, Roger Shelton & myself (Martin Johnson) for Swallows.
As ever, it was a good match between the two teams, with Lagondas ending up reversing the 6-4 loss of when they visited Mursley. Glen started well, winning three close games against myself, to put the home team one up, only for Peter to push his way to a similar close three games victory over Roy. Chris and Roger then played an excellent set, as Roger's counter hitting saw him just take the first two legs, only for Chris to hit back, to level it at two legs each, by just taking leg four at deuce, before Chris managed to up his game just a little more, to take it in five legs. A rare doubles win for Swallows followed, as Peter/Roger paired up to beat Glen/Roy, to leave the match all square again. Swallows took the lead for the first time, as a topsy turvy set saw me come through over five legs against Roy, after Roy had twice battled back from being one leg down. That, however, was the last time that Swallows were ahead, as Lagondas took the next four sets in succession - Glen beating Roger over three tight games, Chris defeating Peter in three, Roy easing past Roger in three, and then in another five game 'thriller', comeback king, Chris, edged past me in a very close five gamer, after twice going one leg down. The last set of the night, and of the season, saw a final, consolation, win for Peter against Glen, to leave Lagondas the winners, 6-4. This final result will almost certainly leave the final positions unchanged, with Swallows in sixth place and Lagondas in eighth.
Player of the Match : Chris Horn.
NB: Last week's "match" (Swallows vs a one-man Cardinals) - I am advised this does not constitute a "match", and so is likely to be given as a 7-0 win to Swallows!
