Team effort sees Kings overcome Spinners to stay unbeaten!
Alan, Tim and Jecu (which is actually his surname for anyone who didn’t know!) played host to Nick, Guy and Craig.
The unbeaten Kings got off to the perfect start, with Guy finding some form after last weeks dip to finally break through the wily play of Jecu in 5 topsy turvy envy ends.
Craig needed less time to beat his old team mate, Tim, coming though in 3 straight.
Last years Top 8 finalists Nick and Alan were next up, with the result going exactly the same way, with the same score line! 3-1 to Nick and the Kings were cruising.
Spinners finally got one on the board in the doubles, a problem area for the Kings this year that can firmly be placed on the shoulders of their captain!
Nick and Craig did get back to 2-2 after being 2-0 down to Jecu and Alan, but they couldn’t quite see it over the line. Even the broad shoulders of Brown were not enough to carry an absent minded Howard on this occasion!
Guy wasted no time against Tim dropping just 15 points, before Howard’s unbeaten run finally came to an end at the hands of Jecu.
A run of 16 games that has surprised many people (predominantly his teammates!)
Jecu did all the right things at all the right times to take 4 very close ends.
Alan added to the tally with a win over Craig, before Nick overcame Tim in 4 close ends to secure the draw as a minimum.
Guy very nearly gave Alan his 3rd defeat in 2 matches, but the Spinners captain took a strong lead in the 5th that he never relinquished.
At 5-4 to the Kings, the match was all but drawn as Jecu took a commanding 2-0 lead against Craig in the final match.
But something clicked in Browns exceptional table tennis mind, as he flicked a switch and started playing some of the best table tennis of the year.
3 very comfortable ends later, and Craig wins it for the Kings to maintain their perfect record.
It’s matches like this that will decide the table, and with a 10 point lead over 2nd place Monarchs, the top of the table Greenleys derby next week is going to be a doozy!
