Match Report (courtesy of Martin Johnson)
The scoreline of 9-1 to Hawks was somehwat flattering to them, with some close games along the way, although
only two five gamers. Indeed, when Mark Thomas blasted through the opening leg 11-1 against Martin Johnson,
the final scoreline would have seemed even more unlikely! Both of the five game sets involved Mark, one was his
11-8 win in the decider against Frank Beck, the other being a symmetrical fifth game loss at 8-11 in that opening
set, to Martin. Blades other players, Tony Coomber & Brian Evans were unable to 'trouble the scorers', despite
some close legs, also losing out in the tight four game doubles, against Frank / Martin. Hawks were also indebted
to their reserve, David Bartlett, who produced a superb trio of singles wins, with brilliant blocking & counter-hitting,
only dropping a single game on the night, to Tony Coomber, to deservedly earn Player of the Match.
Blades remain rooted at the foot of the table, whilst Hawks biggest win of the season moves them back to equal
fourth place with Lagondas.
