TOPSPIN UNSPUN AT CHACKMORE
My top of the table MK Topspin side suffered our first defeat of the season at fortress Chackmore, always a difficult place for us to visit, our heaviest ever defeat (outside the Premier) was here a while back. The home boys (Bub Burman, Andy Whitehead and Sam Willett) were well in the groove as well, having just played Leighton Buzzard Van Hire the previous night. This week Topspin went with Russell Penn, Mervyn Kelly and myself.
Sam had to get away to work so played his 3 straight off, doing a magnificent job for team in winning twice to set up the ultimate victory with his obdurate defence and judicial hitting. What has become the mandatory Chackmore doubles win came next, in straight games too, followed by a Bub win at Mervyn’s expense. This put us 4-1 down and struggling. But we rallied to 4-3 before Chackmore snatched the next two for a well deserved victory. Finally Russell put a respectable sheen on the scoreline for us with a typical punchy performance, coming from behind to beat Andy in 5 games.
A good contest all round, and one of those matches where no-one went home empty handed.
Man of the match : Sam Willett
