James Tapp writes....
KINGS BEST RESULT STARTS FIGHT BACK
For the first time this season, Bandits fielded the same team as the previous week. James took on Guy in the opening match of two teams that must have been surprised with the way the first round results went.
With Kings needing to call on Scott Dixon to play two matches on adjacent tables they wanted a good start. Guy took the point in four to give it to Kings.
Second up was Nick against Jamie, a point Jamie took in first round in a close fought contest. It didn’t disappoint, with some great rallies and strong attacking play from both ends. Nick took the point in four, two nil to Kings.
Doubles next, and Mike and James managed to take it in five before Scott made his entrance against Mike. Quickly despatched 3-0, the score was level.
James against Nick is always enjoyable, but also predicable, and Nick took the fourth easily to take the score to 3-2 to the home side.
Guy vs Mike went to five, with Guy coming back from 4-0 to take an unbeatable 10-4 lead to extend the lead back to 2 points. Kings could smell their first win.
Scott against Jamie was a bookie favourite for an away win, but Scott hadn’t read the script, taking the second game with some flashing forehands, before Jamie restored order to win in four.
Mike had his hands full with Nick, who won in four at deuce.
This was already Kings best result of the season so far, and it fell to Guy to try and secure the win against Jamie, or the task would be left to the super sub, Scott Dixon.
Guy took the first set, but Jamie fought back to take the next two. A fired up Guy then rushed into a 5-1 lead and levelled it at two games apiece. But Jamie raised his game and took the vital point.
And so a shattered Scott, who had already played in five matches, went up against James, and suddenly sparked into life with some fantastic hitting, looping and blocking. Everything James threw at him he came back for more. And at 8-8 in the fifth, it really was anyone’s game. Luckily for James - it was his game, to clinch the draw!
So, the same team for Bandits, gets the same result, 5-5.
