Nick Howard writes...
The Kings split the honours with the Pins......
Expecting the trio of Dave, Mark and Julian, we were treated to a different J in the form of Jason.
Jordan was up first against Dave, and despite a good first set win, Dave rattled the next 3 to take the win. This is with a rather dodgy ankle may I add!
Nick fought past Mark 3-1 in 4 very good sets, before Guy succumbed to the class of Jason over 5 gruelling sets.
The doubles was a great match, but sadly for all watching (and by “all”...... I mean Guy), Nick and Jordan lost in 4, although had their chances against Jason and Mark.
David donned the sketchers again to take on Nick in the 5th match. After feeling very generous and allowing Nick to win the first 2, he came storming back to take it into a 5th. Home court advantage took over, and Nick took the 5th comfortably in the end.
It was battle of the J’s in the 6th match, with Jordan taking the first set. Jason then came storming back to win the next 3 and take the match score to 4-3 Kingpins.
Guy and Mark were up next, and Mark was in scintillating form taking the first 2 comfortably. Guy fought back and pushed it into a decider, before storming to a comfortable 5 set win - It’s the best he’s played all year!
Battle of the undefeated followed, with Nick and Jason set for a great match - Jason had beat Nick in the exact same circumstance last year, but didn’t bring his A game to this one, and went down 3-0.
With the match tied at 4-4, Guy and David took to the court to see who could take the initiative in the match. Dave won the first, Guy the second, Dave the third and Guy the fourth! Enter the 4th 5 setter of the evening, and could Guy keep up the Home team advantage of winning the previous 2 marathons........?
You bet he could!! 11-9 in the 5th! Never a doubt......
So..... the scene is set for Jordan, our new recruit to bring home the bacon for The Kings first win!
After Mark meticulously adjusted his bandanna, the game kicked off at 22:34!
The first 2 sets were nip and tuck, with Mark taking them both, before he summoned the strength of Samson to take the game in 3 and end the match as a draw.
A great game all around!
