Kings complete hat-trick over KingPins
The newly familiar trio of Dave, Mark and Pete made the journey to Greenleys to play against league leaders, Nick, Matt and Guy.
This sport is certainly one of small margins, and the Kings have now played 36 five game matches, winning a whopping 26 of them. The table could look very different in another year.
In a match that could easily be mistaken for a team of yesteryear (Walking Wounded), 4 of the 6 players on display were carrying some sort of injury/fitness issue. Guy having come straight from a hospital appointment, Dave with his sports enhancing foot injections to give him the nimbleness of Micheal Flatley, Pete slowly starting to get back into match fitness and Nick who is looking on eBay for a new shoulder.
3 of the first 4 ends were over in a flash. Matt beating Mark, Dave beating Guy and Nick & Matt combining to take down Mark and Dave. Only Pete put up some fine resistance against Nick (or should that be the other way around?). Pete enjoyed a straight sets win the last time they played, but couldn’t quite find the same rhythm to get over the line; losing 11-7 in the 5th.
Mark then staged a storming comeback against Nick after losing the first 2. 15-13 and 12-10 in the 3rd and 4th took us to a 5th end, and despite a 3 point lead, couldn’t quite get there, losing 11-8.
No troubles for Matt in his last two matches - Comfortably seeing off Dave and Pete with the consistent top spin we all know and love (if you are on his team).
Guy also picked himself up on a night where he wasn’t firing on all cylinders. First coming from behind to beat Pete 3-2, and then having to compose himself against a rampant Mark, to also pick up a 3-2 win.
The usual 5 ends that Nick and Dave enjoy sharing never materialised, as Dave let a 7-1 lead slip in the first, to succumb in 3.
As always, a great night - Only 4 more to go!
