Leighton Buzzard Avengers 8-2 Mursley Hawks

Second placed Leighton Buzzard Avengers hosted bottom team, Mursley Hawks, at their Wing venue, in Week 6, in Division 1.

Avengers got off to a good start, as Dave Broome got the better of Martin Johnson in straight games, and then Fabrice Spelta comfortably beat Ian Spanswick in three, with serving being the telling factor both times.  David Bartlett got Hawks on the scoreboard in the next, though only just, as in a see-saw battle, just edged out Steve Jordan at 13-11 in the decider.

Avengers built on their early lead, as Fabrice and Dave again won in straight games, in the doubles against David and Martin.

In the second round of singles, despite a few close legs, it was again Avengers who won them all without dropping a game, as Fabrice won against Martin, Dave won against David and Steve won against Ian.

Fabrice completed his maximum with another dominant display against David, but then Martin grabbed a second win on the night for Hawks, winning over four close games against Steve.  However, Avengers completed their 8-2 win as Dave won through in four tight games against Ian, to also complete a maximum.

The result pushes Avengers to within two points of Division 1 leaders, Milton Keynes Sasaki, and it maintained their record as the only unbeaten team in the Division.  For Hawks, they remain rooted to the bottom of the table, and are still without a win, as they continue to try to find their feet in the higher Division.
