7-10 Split as Kings stutter to victory
Before the Kings have met Spinners or Phoenix, it was back to MK Centre for their second encounter with the KingPins.
Dave and Mark were accompanied by returning hero and all around good guy, Peter Bannister.
The Kings rolled out Gary Deakin for his first action of the season, alongside Nick and Matt.
Nick and Mark started things off, in what has become a routine win for Nick in recent years - No danger here as he won in 3 straight.
Dave and Gary played out a very up and down second match, but it was Dave who dug deepest to see off the Northants veteran in 5 tough sets.
Matt wasted little time racking up yet another 3-0 victory, this time over Pete.
Despite letting a 7-1 lead slide in the first set of the doubles, Nick and Gary regrouped to take the match 3-1.
Captain vs Captain was next, in Dave’s second 5 setter of the night.
After finding himself 2-1 down, he won the 4th and took a commanding lead in the 5th. At 9-5 up, it looked all but won..... Sadly for Dave, a couple of loose serves, and some aggression from Nick saw the Kings captain come storming back to win 11-9 in the 5th.
Matt had less trouble with Mark, winning in 3 sets, for the loss of 2, 4 and 6 respectively. Given another 3 sets, and Mark had that in the bag!
Gary stormed onto the board against Pete, dominating 3 of the 4 sets they played. Strangely, the set Gary lost was 11-1....... And if certain people watching the game had paid more attention...... they wouldn't have been so complacent in their last match (yes... I’m talking about myself!).
At 7-1, it looked like a carbon copy of the first match between these 2 teams, when the Kings ran out 9-1 victors.
But Pete, whose had many a success over Nick in the past, was in no mood to roll over and die. Hitting some form from a few years ago, he gave Nick no chance as the Kings captain could only admire some fine shot making from the KingPins player. 3 sets later and it’s all over, for a fine win on his MK return for Mr Bannister.
Mark also saved his best for last against Gary. Some fine attacking play left an out of sorts Deakin with just the 1 win from the night.
As always, and enjoyable night where no one was winless......
Final Score
