Kings prove it’s them who have “the power” in routine win.
With the 90’s dance classic “I’ve got the power” booming from Pete Tillotson’s iPhone (one can only assume it’s his motivational pre match ritual), the trio of Pete, Minesh and Colin Munford hosted the King’s Nick Howard, Guy Sparrow and Jordan Moss.
The match looked to be a little one sided on paper, with the Kings finishing second last year, and Powers applying their trade in Division 1……. and the first 4 matches proved one way traffic indeed.
Although the first game between Pete and Jordan was an entertaining affair with many swings in momentum - Pete couldn’t convert a 2-1 lead and fell to a 3-2 loss in the end.
Guy wrapped up his first game in 4 sets against Colin, whilst Nick did the same against Minesh, who was playing very well indeed.
The doubles was another 4 setter to the Kings, with Howard and Sparrow losing the first to Pete and Colin, before seeing off the next 3.
The Powers got their first of the night as Colin came storming back from a 1-0 deficit against Jordan, before playing some sensational stuff to win the next 3 for the loss of just 12 points.
Captain vs Captain was next, with Nick and Pete playing each other for the 5th time in recent months due to the Summer League. Pete stole the first, before Howard ran through the next 3 with little trouble.
Guy and Minesh played out the game of the night, and both had many chances to take away the victory. Minesh led 2-1, before Guy took it to a decider, and with both players having match points, Guy finally secured it 13-11 in the 5th.
Nick and Colin then spent significantly less time at the table, with the former doing just enough to take a 3-0 against the big hitting Power.
Minesh then took the second and final game for Powers, overcoming Jordan 3-0, in a match that could have easily been 3-0 the other way around (11-8, 16-14, 12-10).
Guy finished off a routine victory against Pete, to propel the Kings to another strong win.
Final Score
Powers 2 - 8 Kings
