On the Edge of Glory, but Titans hold on!
As Al Pacino famously said in Any Given Sunday….. “You find out life is just a game of inches. So is Table Tennis” (quote may have been changed to fit the sport…..
The Glory boys of Ian Mead, Jacob Midson and Scott Dixon came to visit Titan HQ in MK who put out Guy Sparrow, Nick Howard and Craig Brown.
Whilst it may seem like these 3 Titans play each week, it was only the 4th time they’ve played together all season!
Guy and Scott kicked things off with a straight sets win for Sparrow, although a 17-15 second set was very tight!
Ian gained revenge for his 3-2 loss to Howard (in Northampton) with a straight sets win of his own. Howard had big chances with set points in both the 1st and the 2nd, but it was one way traffic in the 3rd for the Glory man.
Jacob almost produced the shock of the season when leading the unbeaten Craig Brown 2-1. But it wasn’t to be as Brown fought back to take the win in 5.
Nick and Craig then avenged their only doubles defeat of the year in another close 5 setter against Mead and Midson.
Dixon didn’t turn up against Howard, and even the power of the odd socks didn’t help Scott this time - A comfortable win for the Titans captain.
Jacob couldn’t repeat the heroics of his earlier match after taking the first against Sparrow, falling to a 3-1 loss.
Match of the night goes to Ian and Craig who played out their 3rd 5 set match since the season began (with 1 win a piece).
A tense match from the off saw Craig have match points in the 4th, only for Ian to come roaring back to take it to a 5th.
But Brown wasn’t ready to give up that 100% as he secured a very fine win.
Jacob was back to his tricks looking to upset the bookies as he was very worthy of his 2-1 lead over Howard.
An 11-2 4th leg put Howard back in control and he took the momentum into the 5th where he’d never be behind for his 2nd win of the night.
Plain sailing for Craig against (a much improved) Dixon saw yet another hattrick for the Titan and 21 matches in a row to start the year – What an absolute Phenom.
Guy and Ian finished off the evening in another 5 setter with Mean coming from 2-1 down to claim the win.
A game of inches indeed with 5 matches going the distance but only 1 to the boys from Greenleys.
