Titans dominate Warriors in rearranged match!
As we approach the final stretch, every point counts as it looks to be a very close call between reining champions, Titans, and past winners Monarchs.
It was the turn of Ricky Taiwo, Ameya Phatak and Darren Ward to enter the Titans arena on a blustery Wednesday evening.
In preparation for his 75th birthday, Darren has loaded up his backhand with pimples - RIP reverse rubbers….
Hosting the Warriors was Nick Howard, Craig Brown and Guy Sparrow, with world renowned table tennis coach and mother Titan, Julie Brown, watching from the rafters.
Ricky fired his team into the lead with a solid 3-1 victory over Guy. All close ends but tricky Ricky made things awkward enough to take down Sparrow.
It took Craig about 5 minutes before he realised Darren had turned to the dark side and was using pimples - But once the confusion was over, it was a typical dominant display from Brown and after a momentary lapse in concentration during set 3, he won 3-1.
Howard needed much less time to see of Ameya, 3-0 and the Warriors will be ruing the doubles where Ricky and Darren lost out 11-9 in the 5th to Howard and Brown.
Ricky almost had his second win of the night when leading 2-0 against and under par Craig. But words of encouragement from the rafters along the lines of “Your inheritance is on the line” soon had Brown firing at all cylinders as he comfortably won the next 3 for the win.
Guy then found some form to beat Ameya 3-1 and Howard beat Darren 3-0, having to come back from 9-4 in the second.
Craig completed his hat trick with a well fought 3-1 victory over Ameya, as Guy found his best form of the season to beat Darren 3-2 as the Warriors captain became more accustomed to the backhand pips.
Which just left Ricky and Nick to start their match at 10:30 (having played on two tables for half the night)
Ricky making his desire to beat the Titans captain not unknown….. But sadly, he couldn’t quite match the level of his previous matches as Howard strolled to his third 3-0 win of the night and a massive 9-1 win overall.
Titans are likely a net 3 to 4 points ahead of Monarchs now, so it’s all to play for as we draw to the close!
With no other Premier matches on this week, that makes player of the week..... Julie Brown!
