Titans overcome stubborn Phoenix in whitewash!
William Shakespeare and Robert Greene, Lord Byron and John Keats, David Wackrill and Nick Howard….. Just some examples of famous literary feuds that have taken the nation by storm.
Playing up for Phoenix, Dave was joined by regulars Mervyn Phillips and Alan Bolding, with the home team consisting of the ever familiar Nick Howard, Guy Sparrow and Craig Brown.
The night started brightly for the bottom of the table Phoenix side, as Mervyn got the better of Guy in the first end 12-10, but could only manage 5 points in each of the following ends.
Fountains pens at the ready for the hotly anticipated battle of the wordsmiths in game 2. Dave offering to settle the match by way of a “Rap Battle”, but Howard was wise to the linguistic capabilities of his superior opponent, and chose to settle things on the table.
Despite some outrageous drop shots from the OG wizard of words, Howard ran out a 3-0 victor.
Craig managed the same scoreline against Alan, before “helping” Howard to a 3-1 win in the doubles that looked a little dicey at times - But this does make it 9 wins from 10 for the pair, which is the most successful in the league by some margin.
Howard outlasted Merv in a close 4 setter before Guy managed the same against Alan.
Craig wrapped up against Dave in 3, and Nick and Craig both won 3-1 against Alan and Mervyn - I have to say….. Alan especially was on the end of some rotten luck!
Guy finished things off against Dave in another 3-0 match.
Chances for Phoenix on the night, but there was no stopping the Titan train who maintain their 16 point advantage over Monarchs with a match in hand.
