O.U. PRIMED FOR TOP SPOT
Another poor result for my MK Topspin side, that's now 3 defeats in a row, has left the door wide open for Open University Primes to take over the leadership tonight, as merely a draw in their match this week will be good enough for them to end Topspin’s 106 day ‘reign’ as front runners.
We made our recent customary poor start, losing all the opening singles with me falling to a feisty Andy Whitehead, Jiten Pitamber to a lightning fast Bub Burman and Russell Penn to an ultra defensive Sam Willett. Sam made a remarkable recovery here, coming from 8-3 down (and 10-9 down) in the 5th. Then later on he came from even further behind ( 8-1) against me, although fortunately on that occasion I still took the set..
The doubles was lost too, not surprising against the Bub/Andy combo, what with them being the hottest pairing in the Division.
We rallied well to take 4 of the next 5 sets with Bub’s win over Russell the only loss. This made for a final showdown between myself and Bub, now hungry for a hat-trick which was not to be denied.
Man of the match : Bub Burman
