We scanned the card for any ineligible players Warriors may have tried to slip into their team, as they do, but no luck there so Topspin had to win all our points on the table.

A poor night for us at Topspin as I couldn’t get going in the opening set against Ricky Taiwo (he wouldn’t let me) and we went from bad to worse, losing the opening 6 singles sets with just the doubles won, before a mini revival. Jordi Armat played up for them from division 2 and I see he’s only lost to Barry Bishop in this division before this evening. Very impressed with his play, likes to go for his shots whatever the match situation and reads the game well for himself and his team-mates. After beating Russell Penn in straight games Armat was advising Ricky on how to play against Mervyn Kelly after a first game defeat. It must have been sound advise as Ricky won the next 3 games 10,6 & 1, particularly bearing in mind that Mervyn had beaten Ricky in their pre-Christmas encounter. But Mervyn had the last laugh as he came from behind in the 5th game to beat Armat when they met later on. Mervyn was superb and that win’s right up there with his best of the season against Biao Wang.

Our other success came from Russell over Ricky in a tight 5-gamer. That’s a good home and away double for Russell against Ricky. Ollie Horswell completed the visitors line up and played brilliantly for his maximum.

Warriors are pretty much out of sight now with a 19 point advantage over Topspin and just 3 matches left to bridge the gap. If they had any idea about how to play doubles Warriors (3 wins all season tells it's own story) would have won the League already by now.
