MAGNIFICENT MERVYN MESMORISES PRIMES
Halfway through this match I thought that, in my admittedly always biased view, Topspin were heading for a whitewash result here. But to my cost, Prime’s Andy Tan was about to put an end to that dream scenario. He had been slaughtered by Mervyn Kelly but was very comfortable playing against me and, as his confidence grew, easily beat Russell Penn in straight games 20 minutes later.
Well played to Andy but the night belonged to Mervyn, who was dominant with his two winged attacking style so finely tuned, that he only conceded 52 points over the 9 games he played, That’s averaging less than 6 points a game!! Brilliant stuff in my book.
More stats. Mervyn just loves playing against this team. This was his 8th hat-trick in the 72 matches he has played for Topspin so far and the only other occasion where he has notched a treble when I haven’t done so was also against Primes (October 2017).
Ning He and James Zeng completed the visitor’s line-up with just the one set going to a decider when Russell played Ning.
Man of the match : Mervyn Kelly
