Newport Pagnell Lagondas 6 - 4 Mursley Hawks
Fourth and fifth places switched, as Lagondas turned round a 6-4 loss first time around, to win 6-4 this
time, and so leap-frog a point ahead of Hawks.
Hawks started well, as Martin Johnson just won through in five games against Glen Davison (their usual
close match), despite letting slip an 8-2 lead in game four and being behind in the decider. Hawks had
two reserves on show, and Gerald O'Dell produced some fine hitting to also win in five games against
Roy Read. Lagondas hit back, as Chris Horn beat Hawks' 2nd reserve, Joe Rich, over 3 close games,
then Chris/Glen won in straight games against Martin/Joe. Martin and Roy had a see-saw five game
battle, as they alternated games, with Martin just squeaking through at deuce in the fifth, to put Hawks
back ahead. Lagondas then took the next two, as Glen eased past Joe in four games and Chris was a
comfortable straight games winner over Gerald. Joe levelled it at 4-4 with a four games win over Roy,
but Lagondas took the final two sets, for the win, as Chris completed his maximum with a close three
games win over Martin, whilst Glen sealed the win with a similar straight games win over Gerald.
Both teams now look ceratin to finish in mid-table, so are likely to do battle again, next season.
