Open University Primes 6 - 4 Mursley Swallows
OU Primes had won one and lost one of their opening two matches, whilst Mursley had lost one and drawn one, so it was perhaps a surprise that Mursely had opened up a 4-2 lead, at one stage (noting that sets 6 and 7 were played in the opposite order)? First up was a see saw battle between Patrick Wong and Martin Johnson, with Martin generally starting better in each leg, but with Patrick battling back, so it fittingly went to five, with Martin lucky to edge through at 13-11 in the decider. Roger Shelton then put the visitors 2-0 up versus Martin Lok, in four games, before Charity Wong narrowed the lead to 2-1 with a straight games win over an out of touch Peter Sear. Primes evened up the scoreline as Patrick/Martin L beat Roger/Martin J in the doubles. Swallows then won the next two, in very close sets, as Martin Johnson came from two games down to beat Martin Lok, before Roger came through, again in five, versus Charity. However, that's where it ended on the scoresheet for Mursley, as OU wrapped up the final four sets to win 6-4, all in three straight games, as both Patrick won against both Peter and Roger, Charity beat Martin J and Martin L beat Peter. This leaves OU in 4th place and Mursley in 8th place, subject to Classics' outstanding result, although the division continues to look like it will remain close throughout, with just seven ponts covering the top eight teams, at this stage.
