Glory couldn’t turn out a side for their last fixture (the only such occurrence this season) so it was good to see them back on track for this one and to have Jacob Midson make his debut after a year’s absence, alongside Ian Brown and Scott Dixon. My Topspin team was the usual one of Russell Penn, Mervyn Kelly and me.

The home boys raced into a 5-2 lead with the doubles loss crucial for us yet again as we couldn’t capitalise on a good recovery from 8-10 down in the 4th to 6-2 up in the 5th.

But, as so often in the recent past, we managed to claw our way back into the match, this time by clinching the last 3 sets for a hard earned draw. Russell saved 2 match points against Scott before bringing the match score up to 3-5. I completed my hat-trick against Ian to make it 4-5 and Mervyn squeezed home 11-9 in the 5th against Jacob after yet another match point was rescued in their 4th game.

We somehow still cling on to that lead at the top of the table despite just 1 win in our last 6 matches now.
