JAMES AND THE GIANT FOREHAND

Data are having a dreadful season, with just 2 wins so far, and look well set for relegation. They only managed to field 2 players tonight with skipper Dave McGarragh away sunning himself on some foreign shore and no reserves available.

But what’s all this gossip I hear about Data’s James Molloy’s supposed loss of form this season? Not on this evidence. He was brilliant here with his big hitting game flowing nicely from both wings, winning all 3 comfortably against us Topspin lads as usual. Rob McPheat blew hot and cold for Data though and we all managed to do enough to beat him, and take the doubles too (12-10 in the 5th) which was a rare Topspin treat and the first win of the season for Russell Penn and myself.

We gave a welcome MK League debut to Keegan Barstow in this match, his first outing in any league for over 30 months so he was a bit rusty and it showed. He likes to attack and has plenty of good shots in his locker so he should be a great addition to the side. Keegan has recently taken up a post with TTE over at Bradwell and came into the team for Topspin stalwart Mervyn Kelly, who is on the sick list and missed his first match in the last 48.

Despite our indifferent showing we stay top for yet another week. However, that could all change by the time we play again in a fortnight’s time with several sides hot on our heels.
