The concluding week of the first half of the League season (how has that happened, already?) saw Mursley Swallows, effectively in 6th place, take on Newport Pagnell Lagondas, in 8th position, and yet again, as all season, saw another good match with not much between the two teams. Swallows got the better start, moving into a 3-1 lead, as Martin Johnson beat Glen Davison in four, Peter Sear snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Roy Read (saving four set points in the fifth to win it 14-12), and whilst Chris Horn grabbed one back against Roger Shelton in four tight games, to end Roger's run of nine wins, Martin & Roger took the doubles against Chris & Roy in four. Lagondas hit back, to square the match at 3-3, following another two competitive games, as Glen beat Peter and Chris beat Martin, each in four games. Another five gamer then saw Roger go two games up against Roy, only for Roy to battle back to level, with Roger finally edging past Roy in a tense decider. Chris pulled Lagondas level again, completing his maximum by beating Peter in the only straight games set of the night, albeit all very close games. With all the close games and sets, the other two matches at Mursley Hall were by now concluded, so the match finished in the relative calm of the only match in the Hall. Two more four leg sets then went the way of the home team, to leave them as 6-4 winners, with both Roger and Martin picking up their second win each. The result will probably see Swallows almost exactly mid table, as their record of four wins, four losses and one draw would suggest. Player of the Match : Chris Horn.
Next week sees the two Mursley teams playing each other again, with Swallows hoping they might be able to avenge their defeat in the opening match of the season.
Final Result : Mursley Swallows 6 - 4 Newport Pagnell Lagondas
