PREMIER ROUND-UP WEEK 13
A GLORIOUS RECOVERY BY TITANS
A quiet week leading up to Xmas with just 3 matches. And all of them very one-sided affairs with the 'big' name teams asserting themselves against weaker opposition.
After last week's blackwash It was a case of back to winning ways for leaders MK Titans in their meeting with 4th placed Greenleys Glory despite a scary start with Jacob Midson ousting Ricky Taiwo 11-9 in the 5th. But Glory had to wait until the final set of the night for more success when Ian Mead got the better of Ricky in another set that went the distance. A great evening's work for hat-trick specialists Nick Howard and Craig Brown. Iain Lindsay was the other Glory boy.
Spinners are now up to 2nd place after a 10-0 triumph in the MK club derby against Topspin. Hat-tricks all round for Alan Cherry (for the eleventh time against Topspin), Jecu Aurelian and Adebola Odetayo. Zeros for Russell Penn, Mal Hussain and Div 1 sub Minesh Pitamber, who nevertheless took both Jecu and Adebola close with deciding games necessary. The Spinners have a remarkable historical record against club-mates Topspin. In their 11 meetings they have only lost one set (a Neil Massa defeat to Russell in 2021). And in this latest encounter Alan Cherry dropped a mere 31 points in total, a new record for least points conceded in a Premier match against 3 opponents since the change to the 'best of 5 games of 11 up' scoring system in 2001.
Another whitewash result came in Greenleys Monarchs match with bottom side Open University Primes. No sets going the distance here with a clean sweep for Dave Beddall, Martin Hall and Tomek Nowakowski against Patrick Wong, James Zeng and Andy Tan.
The Leighton Buzzard/Greenleys Warriors match has been postponed until February. The Warriors now have a 3-match back-log to catch up on.
