2024 - 2025 Closed Championships

50 intrepid league players took part in the League's Closed Championships on Sunday 23rd February, playing in excess of 220 sets, starting at 9.30 am with the final match ending at 8.50 pm! All 6 tables were still in use at 7 pm. A report on the day will follow, but below are the outcomes of the various events, which feature a number of new names to the League's Roll of Honour:

Championship Singles:  Winner - Tomek Nowakowski           Runner-up - Nick Howard

Plate (Consolation singles): Winner -William Kit Liang         Runner-up - Anjana Navalkissoor

Ladies Singles:                Winner - Anjana Navalkissoor          Runner-up - Antonina Bohach

Championship Doubles: Winners - Tomek Nowakowski and Antonina Bohach   Runners-up - Adrian Piotrowski and Ricky Taiwo

Ladies Doubles:              Winners - Muriel Hooker and Varsha Tijare                 Runners-up - Antonina Bohach and Brenda Viney

Mixed Doubles:               Wiiners - Nick Howard and Antonina Bohach              Runners-up - Mervyn Phillips and Muriel Hooker

Mens Vets:                     Winner - Tomek Nowakowski           Runner-up - Ian Mead

Ladies Vets:                   Winner - Varsha Tijare                    Runner-up - Zita Pascoe

Mixed Over 60s:            Winner - Mervyn Phillips                  Runner-up - Iain Lindsay

Restricted Doubles:       Winners - Chris Paddon and Chris Welch                     Runners-up - Ian Grainger and Chris Shamuyarira

Many thanks to everyone who took part in the various events; to our League President Bill Clark, who presented several of the trophies; to those who helped locate players as required (thereby reducing my stress levels) - particularly Chris Welch, Chris Paddon, Martin Johnson, Orrin Edwards and Stefan Swift; and to Keith Thompson and Alan Cherry at Kingston TTC for leaving the heating on for the day.
