What a weekend
The Bugbrooke Badgers / Yardley Titans, in conjunction with the social media phenomenon that is TableTennisDaily, have just hosted a genuinely international table tennis event at Borussia Düsseldorf — one of the premier table tennis facilities in Europe and home of the German National Team.
Across the weekend we had 30 players representing 10 different countries, all coming together for three days of table tennis, competition, questionable decision-making and a lot of laughs.
The event ran from Friday evening through to Sunday and somehow managed to squeeze in:
A full behind-the-scenes tour of Borussia Düsseldorf with Managing Director Andreas Preuss
A huge round-robin tournament, complete with some ridiculously tense Golden Point finishes
An evening out and group meal in the heart of Düsseldorf
A Top Table competition, won by our very own Dan Smalley
A serving challenge
And an absolutely spectacular One Point Challenge — video coming soon on social media, because that one needs to be seen!
Add in three days of playing at a venue steeped in table tennis history, meeting players from all over Europe and beyond, and getting 30 people together for something of this scale… and we’re pretty proud of what we managed to pull off.
What started as a slightly ambitious idea turned into a fantastic international weekend and probably one of the best table tennis experiences we’ve ever been involved with.
A massive thank you to everyone at Borussia Düsseldorf, the team at TableTennisDaily, and every single person who travelled over and helped make the weekend what it was.
Not entirely sure how we top this one next year…
Although negotiations are apparently progressing well for Fan Zhendong to sign for the Badgers and Timo Boll for the Titans for the 2027/28 season.
We’ve just got to get them registered with the MK league first.
