Mosquitoes Fly to the Top

Last week's Division 2 leaders, Open University Shockwaves, won again, coming away from Little Horwood Wooden Tops with a 6-4 victory, as Tiger Tan scored a maximum, backed up by two wins for Charity Wong, who also partnered Tiger to a doubles win against Andy Hooper and Paul Reynolds.  For Wooden Tops, who drop to the bottom of the table after a fourth defeat, Bill Higgins won twice, although it took 11-8 in the decider to edge past Charity, to add to a win against Yi Cao.  Paul and Andy each won once in singles, to complete the scoring.  Despite the win, Shockwaves have lost the lead in the Division, due to a big win for last week's second placed team.

Woburn Sands Mosquitoes climbed from second to first, as they scored a big 9-1 win against Greenleys Moghuls, despite having to play a reserve.  Regulars, James Molloy and Robert Mungham, both went the night without dropping a game, including in the doubles against Orrin Edwards and Slava Volokha, whilst the Mosquitoes reserve, Garry Barnes, also added singles win against Orrin and Slava, but lost out to Jose Blecau, who thus scored Moghuls' solitary point.  Moghuls drop to sixth place as a result.

Leighton Buzzard Spitfires and Newport Pagnell Lagondas, in third and fourth places, shared the points in a 5-5 draw.  Chris Horn took the individual honours for Lagondas with a maximum, including a share in the doubles win with Tony Ardis against Anshuman Pandit and Graham Silversides in five games, with Tony adding the other win for Lagondas against Edward Lock.  For Spitfires, Anshuman and Graham each beat both Tony and Glen Davison, whilst Edward Lock added one singles against Glen.

The final match of the week saw a first victory of the season for Mursley Hawks, who edged past Milton Keynes Powers, 6-4, to move Hawks off the bottom of the table, whilst Powers actually moved up to fifth place.  No-one was able to win all three singles, with both David Bartlett and Martin Johnson winning twice for Hawks, and Kareem Omar winning twice for Powers, but a five game doubles win for David and Martin against Peter Tillotson and Keith Carrington just tipped the balance in favour of Hawks.

The coming week will feature the top two teams playing each other, as Shockwaves take on Mosquitoes.  Elsewhere it's third versus fifth as Spitfires visit Powers, fourth against eighth as Lagondas host Wooden Tops and finally, sixth versus seventh as Moguls entertain Hawks.
